Domestic violence is an act of brutality that tends to happen to women and causing physically, sexually, and mentally harms towards women. Based on the article 5 of Undang-Undang Penghapusan Kekerasan Dalam Rumah Tangga, there are a few different forms of domestic violence, that is, physical violence, psychological violence, sexual violence, and negligence. Through civil litigation, the victim of domestic violence can claim her rights that have been violated by her husband and demand a divorce. Criminal law regulates social conduct that is threatening and harmful to the people and society, which includes the punishment for whoever violate those laws. In Indonesia, domestic violence is considered as criminal act, which regulated on the article 44-46 UU P-KDRT. By filing a criminal lawsuit the accused can face jail punishment.
