Rifka Annisa also provides counseling services for men who are perpetrators of domestic violence and other gender-based violence. This counseling aims to change the men’s behavior to that of nonviolence. Efforts to end this chain of violence are more effective when both the victims and perpetrators are involved. Additionally, counseling for men is aimed at increasing the responsibility that men take for their actions. By transforming their perspectives, attitudes, and behaviors with regards to gender equity, respect for women, general support, and nonviolence, Rifka Annisa looks to solve the issue at its core. Therefore, changes in the behavior and mentality of the pair—both the man and the woman—can help to eliminate violence against women at-large. Rifka Annisa believes that behaviors, even those already ingrained, can be changed through the process of learning and positive habituation. This process may be conducted by challenging men to understand themselves, communicate effectively, manage anger, build healthy intimate relationships, cultivate good notions of fatherhood, and avoid violent behavior.
